   I seem to be one of a number of people that are allergic to Pennsylvania or possibly to Berks County, Pennsylvfania. I lived fo 28 years in Los Angeles, CA area with no allergy problems. I moved back to PA for financial reasons and my allergies are giving me a lot of problems. I sneeze, cough from post nasal drip, and become congested when I get tired. After sleep, the congestion subsides.

   I would particularly like to get rid of the allergies because I work with the public as a cashier in a supermarket.

   I am covered by our corporate insurance Keystone Health Plan East and my PCP is Green Hills Family Practice, Dr. Mack.

   I too am allergic to Pennsylvania and whenever anyone asks me why I moved from there this is exactly what I would tell them, “I am allergic to PA”. I considered moving back to be near the family but remain fearful due to my allergy response. I tell ya come springtime I truly felt as if I were going to die. Itchy eyes, fatigue, scratchy throat, sneezing, sinus pressure, swollen glands and generally after feeling like this for a couple weeks I would get sick probably due to a weaken immune response. Reading, Pennsylvania is horrible, I know they have alot of flowery types of trees throughout the district and maybe this is the problem. Whatever it is I can not return due to my allergy response. Whenever I visit family I plan on loading up on allergy meds just to make the visit. I would always say I knew when I did die it would certainty be during allergy season if I remained in Pennsylvania. So hence I moved away. I now lived Maine now and general have limit allergy affects, if I were to stay here the only thing that would probably kill me will be only the taxes. My wife however wants to move nearer to my family, I think she just wants to be a widow.

   Allergy Problems in Pennsylvania I believe are a combination of factors. I know all the pollens in the air are contributers and this can be provened whenever it rains. After a rain during the months from April thru June cars will be coated with a greenish hue from all of the pollens. The second contributer would be the design of the all the wonderful valleys of Pennsylvania which serve as wonderful cups systems for this pollen and smog to concentrate. The valleys concentrate the percentages of bad air and makes every breath more irrating. Once the weather heats up the dispersement of pollens seems to be reduced and general preceived allergies would seem to be improved. Several things I would do would be remain indoors till the heat of summer sets in, work in a filtrated air environment, air conditioned space is great during these times, and personally I would use allergy meds for a couple days and simply stop due to my concerns of dependance and actually this method seem to reduce my sensitivities for the rest of the season. Maybe my body built up its own histamine response to deal with the problem, the allergyies would always return the follow year though. So if you can’t knock down the mountains then move out of the valley this should help some.

   I’m from Allentown, PA and I haven’t had any problems. I agree about the Reading area though. It can be pretty nasty out there especially in the downtown areas. It’s also home to a lot of farm land. As far as allergies go, I would try somewhere in the Lehigh valley, or south of there around Carlisle and Mechanicsburg, or any of the “clean cities” of PA. More people, less farmland, but watch out for downtown areas (you’ll know it when you see it).

   BTW, I’m stationed at Luke AFB in Phoenix, AZ. Never had any kind of allergies, and apparently now I’m allergic to the “dust” according to the Doctors here. Sneezing, and itchy nose oh what fun!

   Sounds like my problem too. I’ve never been allergic to anything, now I’m allergic to everything. It got so bad we couldn’t even pet sit our neighbors dog, Cleo anymore.

   I was raised in AZ and moved to PA (allentown) to go to Cedar Crest College; i moved to PA in 2003 and ever since i’ve had nothing but allergies!! The west coast has historically been the place to send Asthma and allergy sufferers (which i am asthmatic and i have a few airborn allergies, citrus blossoms being the worst, courtesy of the citrus groves in Yuma, AZ) thanks to the hot, dry aired and sparse plants….moving to PA was suicide for me. I’m now constantly fighting off sinus infections, have a stuffy nose and sinus pain/pressure and have developed a sensitivity to the humidity in my area. I live in allentown, and yes there is a mass increase of allergies there…now i live in Coaldale (near Tamaqua/Hazleton) and its much worse! Coal country and TONS more plants!! No A/C in my house so no cool air and LOTS of allergies!!! It’s terrible…OTC and RX drugs dont work on my allergies either, they only make me sleep

   I came to US ( south Alabama) 5 yrs ago from India. I never had any allergies when am in India. With in few months, I body reacted very bad, and doctors daigonalized it to be pollen allergy, food allergy and dust allegies. since then am suffereing a lot with year long allergies( itchy watey eye, hives on face , neck and body, itchy dry skin) . I moved to Pennslyvania 3 yrs ago, and my allergies grew more.
   am suffering a lot from allergies. I feel depressed.
   IS there any state in US which is allergy free?
