i am considering moving from salt lake city, utah to improve my allergies. I know the salt lake area is horrible for allergy sufferers. the high-mountain desert climate with the thin, dry air is very bad for my sinus and allergy problems.i am looking for an area close to the coast with lower elevation and more humidity. — DD, Utah
I’m from Iowa and suffered mostly at the end of summer from allergies. Other than that, had two septoplasties, one, at age 15, and the other at age 20.
I moved to Colorado in 2002 and, after a few months, realized my nose could not handle the dry climate. (I lived in the mountains at about 9750 sq. feet) I had dry, irritable, and painful nasal passages almost constantly for a year and a half. One ENT said I had major erosion in my nose and must move to a different climate, while another said it wasn’t quite that bad, but to continue using nasal sprays and a triple antibiotic ointment on and in my nose to retain moisture.
We moved to North Carolina last year in search of humidity to alleviate my constant suffering. (more…)
We have moved from Bellingham, Washington (Northwest Washington) to Reno, Nevada. My son, whom is 3 has never had any allergies. After 3 months of living here he now has a chronic cough, congestion and watery eye. We went back to Washington for the holidays (4 weeks on Christmas Break) and he completely cleared up. So, as far as I can figure he needs a more humid environment. I am trying to combat his symptoms without medications, using a humidifier at night, and a vaporizer. I refuse to throw pills at him, last time I put faith in a medication is came out to be carcinogenic. — E., Nevada
I have been living in Southern CA for 14 years and have suffered tremendously with terrible allergies, asthma and major dry skin and red rashes on my face. Last month I went to Florida for 2 weeks and cleared up in 2 days. My skin was soft and clear of any rashes and I could finally breathe again without the use of drugs. I’m sure every one is different and where one climate works for one might not be the best for another. However I’m seriously thinking of moving out of CA. — Christina, California
I’ve lived in Miami, upstate New York, the Bay Area in California (San Francisco etc) San Diego, San Luis Obispo & now in Albuquerque, New Mexico & New Mexico has proved the worst for allergies, in my case. — Molly, New Mexico
