I have moved back to NC. When I was here 2 years ago, I had severe allergies. We lived in florida for two years and I was fine. Now that we are back, not only do I have allergies, but I also have burning in my mouth and throat. I even get red patches on the corners of my lips. Is this related? The doctor treated me with antiobiotics, with no relief. It comes and goes, usually worse after I eat. Can you help me. — Sandra, North Carolina

I am in North Carolina, too, and have developed this symptom, along with a host of others.
Check into MSG and any products containing natural flavors, flavoring, and “spices” without naming the spice. Your symptoms sound like reactions I have heard of to these products. Also, I have seen allergy literature indicating that some allergies when they occur together can be even worse than when they happen alone. I myself have horrible allergies to everything in the NC air, especially weeds. In addition, upon moving here I developed a terrible dizziness disorder that is made worse by MSG products including natural flavors (look it up and you will find that it is quite similar to MSG). Once I eliminated these products from my diet (extremely difficult!! they are in everything!) I found that my dizziness was nearly gone. It would come back when the pollen counts were really high, so I manage that, as well.

The question of whether MSG causes allergic reactions has long been controversial. Patients know what they experience, but is it a true allergic response?

i have the same problem as you… i have rediculous allergies in North Carolina but i just moved to florida and i am fine… my asthma, as well as my chronic cough and post nasal drip are gone.
i went to an allergist one time and they said i have ZERO allergies… i am allergic to nothing in the environment. there must me some type of mold or pollen that they are not testing for… thats my theory
