Asthma: Rome or Milan Italy, Europe, and Miami, Florida

I don’t care if a doctor says theres no better place to live with asthma because there are better places. If they are not asthmatic they will never know the feeling, the torture, the shallowness of breath we can feel. No one will understand unless they are touched by this lung disease.

But one place that i have been that i will never in my life revisit again was Milan,Italy. It was the worst place my breath was so shallow i thought how anyone could stand living here. The polution in Italy is horrible, even Rome, be prepared before you go to Europe.

My asthma feels alot better in Florida Miami south beach even though its humid it helps. But i belive our bodies are made up in so many different make-ups that we have to all find the place were we will feel the best. — Nicholas, Florida

I absolutely agree. I grew up in Florida, without a single health problem. My family moved to Ontario and within the year I started to get sick. Many bouts of phnuemonia, a bout of tb and now copd. The only time I feel well is when I revisit my family in West Palm Beach. Unfortunatly because of immigration restrictions I am unable to return to Florida. So basicly I’m waiting to die in Canada. When I could be living in Florida.

I also have had a terrible experience with sinus problems in Italy. In Milan, in Bologna, and worst of all in Naples. The smog is terrible in Naples, although a local tried to tell me it was just “mist”. There are cigarette smokers everywhere and the highways are worse than LA I even had trouble in the so called “mountains” of Le Marche and at the seaside, where there seems to be much mold. I have traveled all over Europe, the U.S. and Canada, and I must say that the only really good places for me seem to be in the desert (Palm Springs area), and way up in the high mountains above about 12,000 feet.

I currently live in New York City, but have a terrible time taking in the polluted air. I feel much better when I’m at the beach or a similar environment. I have travelled extensively, and believe I feel best in Florida. I’m considering moving there, but haven’t gotten the courage to do it yet.

Has anyone been in a similar position?

yes, I am in ohio and the allergies are horrible I spend most of my time sick. I activity level is limited because I cant breathe at all. I have been planning a move to florida for along time but cant seem to get the nerve up to just do it my son says just get in the car and go dont think just do it. when we were there on vacation I never had one headache I could breathe fine. I think I must go to florida, they call Dayton the sinus valley

If you are thinking of Florida as a solution to allergens, think again. I moved to South Florida in late August. My health deteriorated so much that I rushed to an allergest. He informed me that this was the worst place in the country in the Fall for mold. I also discovered I am allergic to about 75% of the palm trees and lots of the grasses. So, I take allergy drops for everything. They are not yet covered, in the US, by insurance. Nonetheless, they are better than the shots. Bottom line, Florida is built on a swamp. It is wild with vegatation that is exotic and the dust and mold is everywhere. Good hunting for the allergy free environment.

I agree I live in Miami and I like it here better. Italy does have its good areas though but more south.

    Hi Nicholas,

my wife has numerous of Allergies and we when last summer to Abruzzo ( south Italy ) for 2 weeks above 300m sea level, she suddenly was free of all her allergies. when we came back to Riga, everything started again, so we did some resources and this what we found: if you have any kind of Allergies, asthma, etc. a dry climate and any place above see level ( the higher the better ) is the pest Place to live in for People with Allergies. ( Riga is humid, that’s why her allergies were back )

Sorry to hear about Milan, Rome etc. but any one in Europe or in Italy knows, that this are cities full of smog and next time you come to Europe, go to Athens, it’s even worst there:) ( no don’t go to Athens, then you will die there, a friend of mine was there and he told me the smog is so terrible, that he had to change ever 2 hours his t-shirt, plus his white t-shirt were black after 2 hours, so don’t go there) but visit Abruzzo instead, I can guarantee you, you will fee alive again.

    Ciao
