Seminole County Florida – new allergies?

Seminole County Florida-I have lived here for 20 years and as a kid I have never had a severe allergy problem. In the past 3 years me and my whole family have been extremly sick during the months of Dec-March. With one cold after another, I believe there is something that is new or worse in the air in these months. My brother lives only a mile a way and his whole family is the same way. If you can give me any insight on this problem, which allergies are worse this time of year here in this area, I would greatly appreciate it, or if any one else experience this change too. — N.H., Florida

I live in seminole county too, and yes the last 3 years for me too a nightmare, my ENT said its since the hurricanes, they blew tons of stuff around and off roofs that otherwise would still be there if we hadn’t had the slew of high winds we had, they say it takes about 5 years for them to die down again, I totally can relate to how you feel.

I have lived in Miami for almost 20 years, I never had allergies before, but since December of 2005, the winter months have been terrible for me, I am suffering from asthma, and I can’t even walk into a restaurant without being overwhelmed by food allergies I guess thats what they are.

I have terrible allergies, especially in May and August, whatever blooms outside in those months really makes me feel ill. I never get colds though. I found that drinking tons of water a day prevents me from getting sinus infections and soar throats from allergies. I haven’t had a cold in years and my other family members get them as often as the rest of the population and I never get them and the only thing I can put my finger on is drinking tons of water daily. I always have water at my side and sip it regularly, whether I am at home or away from home, when I carry water with me. Try it, it might work for you too.

See another post about the air quality in Florida (hurricane related?) here:
What has changed Florida’s air? Do hurricanes affect allergies?

Hi, We just recently moved to the Orlando Florida area 2 months ago from Iowa. We looked forward to warmer weather and not to have to battle the snow and cold, im not sure that was the best choice now. I use to get a headache a few times a week, my hayfever would kick in around June/July and then after that go away. Since moving here I have been plagued with headache after headache some making me sick. My eyes hurt, I can feel pressure in my nose and around my eyes I feel tired and just miserable. I need to go out and find a job teaching but feeling like this I know I would not last the day, and its a hit or miss some days fine some days bad, one after another. I went to the doctor they thought I had a sinus infection, but after taking meds for 7 days its still happening. My son and daughter have also been having alot of headaches so much I have to keep Tylenol at the school so they have it when they feel one coming on. I cant take sinus medications with pseudoephdrine as they make my heart race and raises my blood pressure. I have a constent ringing in my ears also. What should I do. I am usually a very busy person and a workaholic but since I have been here I dont feel like doing much. Help in Orlando.

I lived in the Niagara area of Western NY most of my life. We are now retired in Wellborn. Fl., near Lake City. My symptoms are extreme and debilitating since moving here. I too thought I was dying that is how badly this make you feel. I live in the country and just wonder if being in the city would change things much while still staying in this area.

In Central Florida, the period from January through March is most miserable for me because it’s oak season. I start taking a nasal steroid medication in January and continue it through the oak season, and after that, allergies are not too bad. I also use an oral allergy medication year round. Oak season is very miserable for lots of people here.
