Allergy in SF Bay and Austin TX

I lived in SF Bay Area and suffered seasonal allergy. Medication helped, but I was quite dependent on it. I then moved to Austin, Texas. And I’ve been living in hell since. I suffer year long severe allergy (the usual spring/fall allergy, plus winter - summer doesn’t count since you can’t really go out in 100+ anyway).

I’m considering moving out of the area. Although almost anywhere is better than Austin, I wonder if there’s a better place for me. I’m allergic to pretty much everything, but worst with “Bermuda Grass, English Rye, Mountain Cedar, and Chinese Juniper”.

By the way, my current top places to move are San Diego (CA), Seattle (WA), and Portland/Vancouver (WA). Appreciate any input. — Max, California

Allergies in Chicago, Vegas, Utah

My husband and I are both born and raised in Chicago where he has struggled with allergies/asthma since he was in grade school. There, he used his inhaler daily, plus using decongestant and antihistamine. He was miserable almost year-round, and got more than the usual number of colds (he had colds at least 4x a year).

Here in Vegas, he is a changed man. Does not use his inhaler AT ALL, and does not use antihistamines nor decongestants. He has not had a cold in 2 years here (we’ve now been here 9).

My story seems to be the exact opposite. I had seasonal allergies and non-allergic rhinitis back in Chicago. Here, I have problems breathing year-round. When the wind blows, forget it - I can’t even venture outside or I’ll be in bed for a day or two.

Maybe we’ll try Utah next! — P., Nevada

Allergies in New York Hudson Valley-where to move?

I’m at my wit’s end…I live in New York’s Hudson Valley, and am uncomfortable all year ’round. My headaches are constant, and some days the inner ears fill up and cause dizziness/vertigo. I’m disgusted with allergists, ENT’s and most doctors in general. when asked what I should do to optimise my health, five different physicians told me, “move” but none have any suggestions as to where one should move to. I have no asthma issues (that I know of) and would just like some tips as to what area would cut down on headaches (acute and chronic) dizziness, and optimise mental clarity. Any ideas? - Paul, New York

Back after surgery!

I’ve been taking some time off due to eye surgery on 1/4/06. Originally it was scheduled in December. I shared more about it on December 6. I’m recovering well, and things seem improved. I plan to post more frequently again now! Thanks for your patience during this time.
