I have lived in Portland, OR for almost nine years, and my allergies (mold, yeast, dust, pollen) have worsened. For the last two years, I’ve been unable to work for days or weeks in March due to severe eczema. I need to move–but Colorado, which my doctor recommended, seems TOO dry from what I’ve read on this website. I’m also considering Berkeley, CA, or New England (I’m from NH & didn’t have nearly as much of a problem there). Any thoughts? I haven’t read anything about New England climates here & would love to hear from there especially. — M.N., Oregon

My girlfriend and I had to move from Portland, OR because she had a horrible case of mold poisoning. We moved back to CO and she is getting better. If you’re having problems with mold and yeast, you probably don’t want to move to another humid climate.
Try Tucson, I stayed in Colorado for a while, and it was really dry and irritating. I headed to Tucson and, at least during the winter, my passages were wide open, which was delightful. Also recommend anywhere by the coast. Sometimes that’s the only thing that works.
I have lived in; Washing, Alaska, Illinoise, Indiana, Colorado, Montana, South Carolina, Georgia and Oregon. If the altitude was not so high in Colorado I would go there tomorrow – or yesterday! It is a little dry but you get use to that; it’s not too bad in the city of Denver or a suburb. I never had any problems but I suffer greatly in Georgia and a little in Oregon! It all depends on what you are allergic too and what triggers it and what condition your lungs are in. The clean fresh air of Oregon could be far better for you the the allergies are worse on you……You need to decide what health condition is the worst but Colorado is beautiful, and much cleaner air now than it was 15 years ago and I may still end up going back there for good this summer.
I have had Eczema all my life I was born with it along with that I have severe nasal allergies. I have lived in Las Vegas, Arizona, and Oregon, Washington State. Eventually you become allergic and become allergic to whatever is there. whether it be dry or humid. I am 45 years old now still have ecxema as bad as ever. I do know that when I eat Chocolate I break out so bad the next day sometimes within hours I need to scratch so bad I think Im losing my mind. not to mention the trying to rip my skin off until I cant take it anymore. Sounds familiar? its mostly the foods your eating that causes the eczema. I use any oatmeal lotions especially Aveno lotion right after a shower and layer it on thick and as much as u can that subsides the itch almost immediately also get some Noxema cold cream and layer that on. Noxema is short for no eczema was created a long time ago for that purpose. do not wash it off. also I have taked Prednisone once a year and that helps alot too. remember lotion up all the time even when your not broke out. I do believe the more humid climate is best keeps your skin hydrated. good luck as far as allergies. Zyrtek in combination with Astelin nasal spray works really well.
I’m wondering if you ended up in Denver or not? I just moved from Portland where I developed Dust mite allergy, and mold allergy. I’m thinking of Denver, but I’m not certain if dust mites are a problem there or not? I’ve been trying to find out if they are or not. I know there may be some mold..
