I can tell you that my allergies have been pretty awful in AZ. I wouldn’t recommend moving there! Cold climates are usually better for allergies (IMHO). Best!
I live in Tucson and my allergies are really bad this year. I am in agreement with the other comment with regards to colder climates.
It really depends on what you are allergic to. I lived in Tucson, AZ for 6 years and never had a problem with allergies. I moved to Southern CA and I am suffering from terrible allergies every year for atleast 3-4 months a year. I wish I never moved.
I moved from Denver to Phoenix last year and my allergies are worse. Trees, pollens and grasses.
You may want to consider Colorado -
I lived in Tucson, Phoenix and other parts of AZ. I moved to Portland yrs ago. I was tested for allergens while in Phoenix and found I was allergic to 18 desert plants. I had suffered with terrible itchy eyes and other symptoms of allergies. I had a person tell me to take alfalfa and once I began that my allergies improved dramatically. I stopped taking them once I moved to Portland and this year I am suffering again. It takes a couple of years to ‘get’ the allergies in any area. I recommend that you get tested to see what you are allergic to and then try herbal remedies to find what works. No over the counter or prescription ever worked for me. One thing the allergist told me is that we can not be allergic to things that are pollinated by bees~ only wind. That includes most trees so look there first. Grasses are also pollinated by wind I believe. Hope this info helps.
I live in Orange County California and can attest that my alleriges are worse in the fall here with yucky dermatitis, I have found that humidity makes allergies even worse. I think that becuase of all the building and disturbing the desert ecosystem in Arizona, gold courses, grasses and the inversion layer in the fall? People have been very disappointed once they got to Arizona, pollution is a factor in Phoenix but it is because of the increase in the buildings etc, stirring up the dust.
I’m miserable in Va. and about a year ago I woke up and could not catch my breath. That was the first time I ever had this happen. I have gone down hill heath wise and it has taken all the quality of life away. I have been admitted to the hospital a lot for severe obstructed airway.
My daughter is graduating from high school in AZ. in May of this year. My doctor said out of 400 things you could be allergic to I am allergic to 398. He wants me to see whom I fell in AZ. and recommends to move there.
Does anybody have advice? HELP
My guess Jim would be to move to a small town HIGH up in the mountains. Definitely not Phoenix or Tucson areas if you can avoid it because I’ve heard of a lot of people having allergies in those areas. Perhaps Flagstaff or Sedona might be good. I’d look there first.
Watch the higher elevation, lots of vegetation and millions of pine trees, not so good, I had to move down from Sedona, Payson area.
I had a life threatening asthma attack 10 minutes after arriving in Sedona Az. I had gone there every year then this year this happen and there is no hospital there- I could not breath. The urgent care did not know how to save me but the fire department and er there were exactly what I needed. They were well equipped but I am still afraid to go back there. It was something in the air.I have allergic asthma and thios had never happened before- very scaring!!!
I lived in Eugene, Oregon for about 10 years, and I can tell you it’s one of the worst places in the world if you’re a hay fever / allergy sufferer. I would take medication and wear a mask and still have strong symptoms.
I now live in Portland, Oregon and have for about 15 years. Allergies are much better here. I think there are a lot more fields near Eugene, whereas Portland is more urban. I still have to take a Zyrtec or two every day from Feb. through June. And there are days when the allergies are quite bad.
In short, I think you could move just about anywhere and be better off than you are in Eugene. Nice town, friendly people, beautiful area… but the allergies there are killer.
