I moved when I was 3 from Los Angeles to Chicago and got ashtma. I moved to South America and it went away. I moved then to Chicago and was fine. I then moved to West Palm Beach Florida. My days and nights are miserable cant breath cant drink or eat anything. As soon as i go to Chicago 3 days later everything is gone. But I dont like Chicago anymore. I’m considering going to California to see what happens? — John, Florida

I am looking for moving to other state from Oregon. What about South - East California or Arizona or which is good to me moving ? — Patsy, Oregon
Over the past 51 years I have traveled through all 50 states and lived in 16 of them. Most of my years have been in the Hawaiian Islands, Florida, California and now Oklahoma. I have NEVER been alergic to anything in my life, with the exception of Oklahoma, since my husband and I moved here 2 years ago. I AM MISERABLE! The doctor has me on 7 different meds and told me, “Move to Missouri!” After reading updates on the message board about MO, I’m sceptical… — Tamara, Oklahoma
I have lived in Seattle, WA for seven years and had no allergies. I Moved to Northern Virginia four years age and my allergy symptoms have gone up each year. I am on medication 24/7. I have always wanted to move to California because of the great weather. Will my allegies get better in California? If yes, please suggest an area. — Anuradha, Virginia
I moved to east central Kentucky 9 years ago from central California about 9 years ago, have always had lung and allergy troubles, they have definitely got worse here, I thought I would maybe get used to it here, but gets worse every year, I thought about moving, but not sure where. Would like to got to maybe Colorado or Wyoming, anybody have any ideas? Thanks and GOD bless — Gary, Kentucky
I have severe nasal allergy such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, sometimes coughing mostly late in the night or early in the morning. I live in Sacramento, California, considered to be the worst part of the US in nasal allergies. I am thinking to move into a desert type climate with least vegetation such as Las Vegas, Nevada. Please advise me about that. — Ahmad, California
I used to be a competitive runner, cyclist, and nordic skier and used to be absolutely crazy about the outdoors. ~1 year after moving from NJ to CA I have started experiencing intermittent asthma symptoms, which eventually grew into full-blown asthma in a matter of a week when I got sick with a viral infection. I am now on 10 different medications, including 2 inhaled steroids. I have a great job, but my productivity at work has dropped ~3 times. The symptoms are essentially constant (chest conjestion, shortness of breath, sleep problems) and improve ~3 days after I travel out of California, and get much worse when exerting in CA outdoors. The symptoms are debilitating enough to freak me out, but not strong enough to kill me (which sometimes I dream of). I am allergic to essentially all trees, and, essentially, non-allergic to grass and weeds.
I understand that moving is always the last resort, but I am afraid that if I stay in CA any longer the inflammation in my lungs becomes irreversible. So at this point it’s a question of a life worth living.
Even though every area has its allergens, naturally, it seems that areas with less vegetation and a long “down” season would have less pollen. California, essentially, has no down season. I am therefore considering Fairbanks, AK. They have trees blooming in the spring, but the blooming seems to last for only a month. I could manage a month os symptoms, but I can’t stand the CA year-round nightmare
I guess, high desert also makes sense, but there are no jobs to be found in my specialty in these areas (I work in nanotechnology). Fairbanks has a research school which I could work at. — RCS, California
We need to move from Ohio. I am allergic to dust mites, trees that are grown in Ohio and the Midwest, and grass. My wife is allergic to molds. I can not even take my 5 year old son outside without getting Bhronchitis this year. We are looking at moving to either Arizonia, Southern California, Colorado or Nevada. Which place would be best? I lived in NW Ohio and Central Ohio except for 5 years in Memphis. My allergies have always been bad in Ohio. My allergies were a little better in Memphis. — Rick, Ohio
I grew up in Atlanta, GA area with bad allergies. I am allergic to just about anything that grows, it seems, but dust/mites & cats were my very worst. As an adult they finally got so bad I left my home state in hopes of finding a healthier place to live. And for about 7 yrs, I thought I had in San Jose, CA (south of SF). An allergist here once told me, given the severity of my allergies previously, if they hadn’t developed within a couple years of living here they weren’t likely to - not true.
My last 3 springs here have been miserable, I believe due to late heavy winter rains bringing on heavy pollenation. What is really interesting is I had noticed at other times during the winter months after a rain I could actually breathe BETTER! Less congestion. Who can Figure!
It is so true that what area is best for you depends on what you are sensitive to. Many people here say this is the worst place to live because everything grows here. I’ve heard & say the South is the Allergy Capitol because of the humidity - it amplifies everything, esp molds!
So now I too am contemplating moving on to another state, but don’t know where I would do best for the longest term. Desert? Wyoming with its frigid winters & mild summers? I do love snow & mountains! What about Montana? Any opinions? Near the Rockies, of course! Any suggestions appreciated. — Linda, San Jose, CA
I have lived in Portland, OR for almost nine years, and my allergies (mold, yeast, dust, pollen) have worsened. For the last two years, I’ve been unable to work for days or weeks in March due to severe eczema. I need to move–but Colorado, which my doctor recommended, seems TOO dry from what I’ve read on this website. I’m also considering Berkeley, CA, or New England (I’m from NH & didn’t have nearly as much of a problem there). Any thoughts? I haven’t read anything about New England climates here & would love to hear from there especially. — M.N., Oregon
